After breakfast, discover the sights of the French capital during a tour. You’ll see the Avenue des Champs Élysées. With its cinemas, cafés, and boutique shops, the Champs Élysées is one of the most famous streets in the world. At the top of the avenue, take in the sight of the Arc de Triomphe. Then head to the Eiffel Tower, built for the Centennial Exposition of 1889, and take a trip to the second level of the tower to enjoy amazing views out over Paris. Tonight, enjoy a lovely Welcome Dinner cruise along the Seine River for a unique look at the city. Afterwards, embark on a Paris Illuminations Tour and see why Paris is known as the City of Light. Learn about the city’s history as you tour the boulevards with their animated cafés and brilliantly illuminated monuments and squares.

Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. Perhaps stroll along the boutique-lined boulevards, sip coffee in the Latin Quarter or go shopping at Rue Mouffetard, with its eclectic shops.

After breakfast board a coach and set out on the journey to Amsterdam and transferred to your river ship, conveniently moored close to Amsterdam’s city centre. Tonight, enjoy the chance to meet your fellow travellers at a Welcome Reception. After dinner, settle in to your suite, relax in an onboard lounge or head into town to experience the nightlife of the Dutch capital.

Today select your activity from our two options. Perhaps take a canal cruise and admire the city’s architecture as you cruise in a glass-top boat past 17th century homes, charming churches and 16th century merchant houses. Or visit the Van Gogh Museum, which contains the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh paintings. Wander amongst the intriguing and famed works for a first-hand appreciation of the Dutchman’s artistic genius. Later, rejoin your ship in Utrecht and cruise along the Rhine River. Tonight, enjoy the Captain’s Gala Welcome Dinner on board.

This morning tour Cologne, then return to your ship for lunch. Afterwards, cruise via Bonn to Andernach. Alternatively, travel by coach from Cologne to 2,000 year-old Koblenz, which in 2011 is hosting Germany’s Federal Horticulture Show. Ride the city’s cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and enjoy an afternoon taking in the different colours and stunning landscapes in and around the city, before re-boarding the coach and heading to Andernach to rejoin your ship for dinner. After dinner, perhaps go for an evening stroll through Andernach at your leisure.

Today cruise through the Rhine Gorge on what is known as the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine. Arrive in Rüdesheim, where the Winzerexpress mini-train will take you to Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum. Here, a tour will highlight one of the most beautiful collections of automated musical instruments in Germany. Late this afternoon, your ship enters the Main River.

Still in Germany, arrive in Miltenberg and disembark for a tour, then continue cruising to Freudenberg. From here, travel by coach to Wertheim. Perhaps embark on a guided bicycle tour of the town, or take in a glass-blowing demonstration. Then re-board your ship and relax as you cruise along the Main River.

Surrounded by green hills covered with vineyards, Würzburg is the capital of Lower Franconia and a crucial centre for wine and trade. During a tour here, see the Resi-dential Palace and churches ranging in styles from Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque to Modern. Later, enjoy time at leisure or take an excursion to medieval Rothenburg, a beautiful walled town on the Romantic Road. After a tour here, have a look through the city’s famous Christmas Museum before returning to Würzburg. After dinner, your ship continues for Bamberg.

After breakfast, disembark and travel to World Heritage-listed Bamberg, one of the few German cities that wasn’t destroyed by bombs during World War II. Here, tour the city’s streets with charming houses and 18th century mansions. Then, during time at leisure, you have the chance to visit a traditional Bamberg Beer Haus and enjoy a local brew compliments of APT. Later, return to your ship and cruise into the Main-Danube Canal. Having taken 32 years to construct, the canal was completed in 1992 and is truly a feat of modern engineering. It links the North and Black seas, enabling ships to cross the entire continent. During dinner, your ship continues cruising towards Nuremberg.

Nuremberg played a pivotal role for the Nazi Party and was thus systematically bombed by the British and US air forces during World War II. It went on to act as the symbolic host of the Nuremberg Trials. Today, select from two touring options. Perhaps take a World War II tour and visit a range of significant sites from the war. Or take a medieval tour and see the 900 year-old ramparts that surround Nuremberg, the Imperial Castle, the Kaiserburg Fortress and more. At lunch, re-board your ship and continue along the Main-Danube Canal. Today, thanks to the series of stair step locks, you’ll arrive at the highest point of the cruise, 435 metres above sea level, and cross Europe’s Continental Divide.

Arrive in Regensburg today, one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities. Here you’ll see one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube. You’ll also embark on a guided sightseeing tour of the city’s architectural highlights including the Old Town Hall, the World Heritage-listed city centre and the Porta Pretoria - gates to an ancient Roman fort built in 179 AD.

This morning arrive in Passau. Perhaps travel by coach to Salzburg for a tour of the city’s ‘Sound of Music’ sights or take a day tour to Ceský Krumlov in the Czech Republic. Alternatively, tour Passau then cruise into Austria and to Linz. After dinner tonight, perhaps enjoy an evening stroll through Linz.

This morning, take a tour of Melk Abbey, one of the world’s most famous monastic sites. Then perhaps borrow a bicycle and take a guided ride on a path along the banks of the Danube from Melk to Dürnstein. Alternatively, rejoin your ship and continue to Dürnstein for a walking tour. Afterwards, both groups then cruise back to the town of Weissenkirchen, where this evening you’ll sample some Wachau Valley wines.

Today enjoy a full day in Vienna. This morning, select from our Freedom of Choice Touring options. The first, a city tour, takes you to see Hofburg Imperial Palace, the Vienna Opera House and Ringstrasse as well as a coffee house to sample delicious Austrian coffee and cake. Your second option is to travel by coach to Schönbrunn Palace for a tour inside this magnificent residence followed by ample time to explore the beautiful gardens at leisure. Both groups then return to your ship for lunch on board, before the afternoon is at leisure. After dinner tonight, perhaps join us for an optional Mozart and Strauss concert (own expense).

This morning cruise across the Austrian border into Slovakia. Upon arrival in Bratislava, disembark your ship and join your selected activity. You might like to embark on a guided medieval tour of the city, taking in the Old Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and St Martin’s Cathedral. Or enjoy a Communist tour that will take you up to Bratislava Castle, where you’re able to marvel at the sweeping views across three countries - Slovakia, Austria and Hungary. You’ll also examine a range of other landmarks of the city’s not-so-distant Communist past. Following your selected tour, enjoy time at leisure to further explore. Later, re-board your ship for dinner and an evening music performance.

Still on the Danube River today, arrive in Budapest, the romantic Hungarian capital. Disembark for a tour that includes such places as 500 year-old Matthias Church, St Stephen’s Basilica, the distinctive Fisherman’s Bastion, the Royal Palace and historic Buda Castle, where you have views of Buda and Pest over both banks of the river. In the afternoon, exclusive to APT, visit the Hungarian State Opera House, which is widely recognised as one of the most splendid examples of Neo-Renaissance architecture in the world. Absorb the grandeur of the building from outside, then venture inside for an exclusive tour, a glass of champagne and a private opera recital of two or three ariettas. This evening enjoy a Farewell Dinner on board, before your ship sets off on a twilight cruise through the city, allowing you to take in the glittering lights of Budapest. You’ll also enjoy an onboard performance by Gypsy violinists.

This morning following breakfast, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Prague’s Old Town. Visit the 1,000 year-old Hradcany Castle courtyard and St Vitus and stroll across Charles Bridge, which links Prague’s Old Town with the city’s castle, on the way to the Old Market Square. Later today, you’ll enjoy a private tour of Municipal House, a jewel of the city’s Old Town. Opened in 1911, the building played a significant role in the architectural and political history of the Czech Republic. Today, it’s Prague’s premier Art Nouveau building. After your visit, indulge in a traditional Czech afternoon tea of coffee and cake, before the remainder of the day is yours at leisure.

Enjoy a full day at leisure today to further explore Prague as you please. Perhaps join an optional tour to Terezín Concentration Camp Memorial for an insight into what was an horrific but fascinating era (own expense). Tonight, indulge in a delicious Farewell Dinner at the Art Nouveau Café and Restaurant Imperial, famous for its original ceramic wall tiling, mosaic ceiling, unsurpassed cuisine and cosmopolitan ambience.
